The last few days have been a whirlwind for Canelo Alvarez with names such as Jake Paul and Turki Al-Sheikh as protagonists in the news.
First, the fight between the Mexican and Paul was a done deal for May 3 in Las Vegas, but then the contract with the Saudi sheikh came out of nowhere.

That agreement with immediate effect eliminated the fight between Saul Alvarez (62-2-2) and the YouTuber and he will now face William Scull (23-0), IBF super middleweight champion after the organization stripped the Mexican of the title for not fighting the Cuban in September.
Now Scull knows that he has the fight of his life ahead of him on May 3 in Riyadh, for which he feels prepared.
I’m getting ready for May 3. I’m the other world champion in the 168-pound category, there’s no other opponent than William Scull.
“It’s the fight of my life, not because of the economy, it’s the fight of my life because of where you come from and where you’ve come without making much noise. I haven’t been able to show my level yet and without a doubt my boxing fits with Canelo’s,” he told ESPN.
Saul Alvarez seeks to regain his absolute reign
When Saul Alvarez opted to fight Edgar Berlanga in September 2024, the International Boxing Federation stripped him of his belt for not facing his mandatory challenger William Scull and with it the Guadalajara native lost the label of undisputed super middleweight world champion, while retaining the WBC and WBO titles.
He will now be able to regain his absolute reign at 168 pounds if he beats Scull, who won the IBF belt by defeating Valdimir Shishkin in October in a fight for the vacant title.
