Will Tyreek Hill be ready for training camp? The truth behind the the star wide receiver’s latest surgery

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has undergone his second wrist surgery of the offseason, marking a planned step in his recovery process. The latest procedure, performed earlier this week, was to remove screws that had been inserted during Hill’s February surgery, which addressed an injury he played through during the 2024 NFL season.

Hill took to Snapchat to share images from his hospital bed, captioning one photo “surgery #2” and another “mission successful.” According to Marcel-Louis Jacques of ESPN, the procedure was part of Hill’s original treatment plan, ensuring his wrist heals properly in preparation for the upcoming season. Despite the lingering issue, Hill remained active throughout 2024, appearing in all 17 games and recording 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns-his lowest statistical output since 2019.

Hill initially suffered the wrist injury during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders last August, leading to speculation that he might require season-ending surgery at the time. Instead, the Dolphins’ medical staff determined a plan that allowed him to continue playing before undergoing post-season treatment. Hill’s resilience contributed to Miami’s playoff push, although the lingering injury may have affected his explosive playmaking ability.

Concern but still a lot of hope

Despite the setback, the Dolphins expect Hill to be fully recovered and ready for training camp. Head coach Mike McDaniel previously described the injury as a ligament issue, and Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed that the second surgery was always part of the planned recovery process.

Hill remains a critical piece of the Dolphins’ offense, serving as a primary target for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. His speed and ability to stretch the field have made him one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the league, and the team will be looking for him to regain top form before the 2025 season kicks off.

With training camp approaching, Hill’s focus will now shift to rehabilitation and conditioning. The Dolphins will closely monitor his progress, but at this point, there are no indications that he will be sidelined once the season begins. Miami’s offense will rely heavily on Hill’s explosiveness, and barring any setbacks, he is expected to take the field at full strength in Week 1.
