Will Stephen Curry play again this season with the Warriors? His knee is not improving

Stephen Curry has not played since late January 2026. His knee has not allowed him any relief to return to the court, and this has already become an issue that, by all indications, will not improve in time for him to come back during the remainder of the season.

The Warriors’ medical staff has not cleared him to be active alongside his teammates, and that only seems to point toward one conclusion: his season is effectively over and a return in the coming weeks appears increasingly unlikely.

Curry is 38 years old, and injuries have sidelined him throughout the entire 2025-26 season. He has been unable to find rhythm, much less the consistency needed to contribute alongside Golden State’s starting lineup in a meaningful way.

Two months without Stephen Curry

It was on January 24, 2026, when everything began to unravel for Curry during a practice session in Minnesota. Since his absence, the Warriors have managed to win only nine games, reflecting the impact of losing their most important player.

This has significantly hurt their chances of securing a postseason spot and has seriously complicated their hopes of even reaching the play-in tournament as the regular season continues to slip away.

There is no clear timeline for his return. About a week and a half ago, it was initially reported that he would need ten more days, but that period has already passed, and there is still no certainty regarding when he might be available again.

Fans, teammates, and the coaching staff are all growing increasingly impatient as they wait for clarity on his status. However, there remains very little concrete information about his recovery process at this point in time.

Curry is dealing with what is medically known as patellofemoral pain syndrome. Among the symptoms associated with this condition is pain in the kneecap, which intensifies when running or making sudden movements on the court.

Moderate-to-severe cases of runner’s knee can require recovery timetables of two or three months, so Curry’s long rehab isn’t unprecedented.”… “But setbacks and recovery stagnation have extended Curry’s absence.

Danny Emerman

Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard explained.

For Curry, the recovery process has taken much longer than expected, and it remains unclear when he will be ready to return, or if he will be able to resume professional play before the season concludes, which is rapidly approaching its final stretch.

In the coming days, the team may officially announce that Curry will not return for the remainder of the season. There could still be a scenario in which he returns for the postseason, should he recover in time and the team qualifies.

For the Warriors, this season has been particularly difficult. In addition to Curry’s absence, they also lost Jimmy Butler to an ACL tear, while Seth Curry has spent more time sidelined than playing.

Ultimately, it has been a very challenging year for Golden State, which now hopes to close it out and eventually regain the presence of its key players moving forward.
