The Los Angeles Dodgers informed a few days ago that on April 7 they will go to the White House to celebrate their victory in the World Series, thus attending the invitation made by President Donald Trump.
“Following the long tradition of baseball, President Trump has invited the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2024 world champions, to the White House when they play in Washington D.C. on April 7. The Dodgers look forward to visiting the White House and celebrating our title,” reads a March 25 post on X.
There are doubts as to whether the starting shortstop, Mookie Betts, will be present, as in 2019 when he was playing for the Red Sox, he declined the invitation to the White House during Trump’s first term.
The player told Jack Harris of the LA Times that he did not know if he would go with the team and that he would talk to his family about that decision.
In 2019, Betts and nine other Red Sox players refused to meet with President Trump, as did the team’s manager, Alex Cora.
“I will not go. I decided not to go,” Betts told the Boston Globe at the time.
Will Shohei Ohtani attend the meeting with Donald Trump at the White House?
One of the biggest questions for fans is whether superstar Shohei Ohtani will attend the meeting with the president at the White House.
And according to the Los Angeles Times’ Dylan Hernandez, ‘Shotime’ will join the rest of the team at the White House: “Ohtani said he would go. The Japanese media asked him about it, and he says he will go”.
Total Pro Sports indicates that Ohtani’s decision goes beyond baseball, because he represents a transcendental figure in the sport today, and all his movements are under the watchful eye of the fans.
And given the controversial image of Donald Trump, a photo with him might not be well received, especially in the future
“Ohtani is the one who should be worried. There’s going to be a picture with Shohei Ohtani and Donald Trump, and, as unfavorable as Trump’s image is right now, I have a feeling that the situation will get worse in 20 or 30 years,” Hernandez said.
The Dodgers players will also meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill on April 8, a day after meeting with Trump at the White House.
