Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns quarterback, has become one of the most intriguing prospects heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. His college football journey has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, marked by flashes of brilliance and persistent injury setbacks. Ewers’ decision to forgo another year of college eligibility and enter the draft has sparked debate among analysts and fans alike.

Ewers, a former 5-star high school recruit, initially showcased immense potential upon joining the Longhorns. However, his college career has been marred by injuries that have raised concerns about his durability and consistency. In 2023, he suffered an AC joint sprain, sidelining him for a significant part of the season.

The following year, in 2024, Ewers sustained another injury in Week 3, which hampered his performance for the rest of the season as he played through lingering issues. CBS analyst Danny Kanell voiced his concerns, saying, “I worry about two things. One is the top-tier arm strength. Two are injuries. Ewers did not finish any season from start to finish.”

Despite these setbacks, Ewers has shown glimpses of his talent that keep NFL scouts intrigued. His decision to turn down a lucrative $8 million NIL deal and skip the transfer portal highlights his confidence in pursuing professional football. However, critics argue that staying in college for another year could have allowed him to refine his game and improve his draft stock.

What’s next for Quinn Ewers?

Adding to the complexity of Ewers’ draft narrative is the rise of other quarterbacks like Will Howard. Howard had a standout 2024 season with the Buckeyes, leading them to a national championship in a 12-team playoff format. His impressive stats-73.1% pass completion rate, 4,010 passing yards, and a QB rating of 89.6-have made him a strong contender in the draft.

“Howard’s toughness is coming out as a unique trademark,” noted Damian Parson on Locked on NFL Draft. This comparison between Ewers and Howard underscores the competitive nature of this year’s quarterback class.

For Ewers, the 2025 NFL Draft represents both an opportunity and a gamble. While his injury history and inconsistent play have raised red flags, his raw talent and potential remain undeniable. As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on where this wildcard quarterback lands and how he adapts to the challenges of professional football.
