Will Leo Messi play in the World Cup? A photo of his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, gets fans excited

Soccer fans are counting down the days on their calendars to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, even as we wait for the 133 days that separate us from the opening match on June 11, it was Lionel Messi’s wife who caused a stir on social media.

Antonela Roccuzzo is once again the face of Adidas and showed off Argentina’s new jersey, even amid doubts about her husband’s participation in the tournament. And of course, fans were excited about the possibility of seeing Leo play once again.

Antonela is ready for the World Cup

Argentina and Messi became world champions on December 18, 2022 in Qatar after a dramatic penalty shootout against Kylian Mbappé’s France, ending a 36-year drought.

Now, with their sights set on the tournament to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, Lionel Scaloni’s team has a new uniform.

The new jersey was unveiled to the public in November last year and brings together the shades of sky blue used in the titles of ’78, ’86, and ’22, years in which Argentina lifted the cup. In this way, it sought to represent the continuity, memory, and hope of all the Argentine people.

Despite this, a new Adidas publication has caught the attention of fans. Three photos of Antonela wearing the jersey, black pants, and matching light blue sneakers were enough to make the wife of the number 10 the center of attention: “The first lady of soccer,” “Our beautiful princess,” and “The queen of the soccer world” were some of the reactions praising Roccuzzo.

Other fans took advantage of the German brand’s post to send Messi’s wife cute and innocent requests: “Give Messi a kiss from me, Anto, please,” “Mrs. Antonella, thank you for taking care of the GOAT! Please make sure he gets enough sleep and eats well,” “Anto, put sunscreen on Messi, the weather is really hot,” they wrote.

However, there were also fans who are already excited about the World Cup and can’t wait to see Leo and company defend the title they won in 2022: “The best outfit for the World Cup! Goddess,” “Argentina on its way to another world title,” “One more time. Let’s go,” fans cheered in the comments section.

However, despite the fans’ excitement, the 38-year-old captain has cast doubt on his participation, stating that he does not want to be a “burden” on the team and that he will evaluate his condition on a daily basis, but he has not closed the door on playing in his sixth tournament. “I want to feel physically well, to be sure that I can help. I don’t want to be a burden,” he previously told Sport. In addition, Messi has met with coach Lionel Scaloni to discuss his plans for 2026, and while this sounds promising, it was not a firm confirmation of his participation either.

Meanwhile, if the Argentine confirms his presence, he and Cristiano Ronaldo would become the only two players to reach six World Cups, further expanding their footprint in soccer.

The Argentine national team will be in Group J, alongside Austria, Algeria, and Jordan. They will make their debut against Algeria on Tuesday, June 16. They will then face Austria on Monday, June 22, and Jordan on Friday, June 26.
