Will LeBron James play against the Pacers? Fans are holding their breath awaiting the Lakers’ report.

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without superstar LeBron James for Friday night’s clash against the Indiana Pacers. The team officially ruled James out following a left elbow contusion sustained during Thursday’s 120-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when James took a hard fall on a layup attempt, landing awkwardly on his left arm.

While James remained on the floor in visible pain and later described the sensation as a “more intense” version of hitting his funny bone, he did briefly return to finish the game.

However, his elbow was heavily wrapped in ice during post-game media sessions, and the Lakers have opted for caution for the front end of their upcoming schedule.

A bittersweet milestone for James

The injury overshadowed a historic night for the 41-year-old veteran. With his third successful shot against the Nuggets, James recorded the 15,838th field goal of his career, officially passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (15,837) for the most made shots in NBA regular season history.

“At the end of the day, just being linked, and my name being mentioned with some of the greatest ever to play this game, it’s always been humbling and pretty cool,” James said of the achievement.

I grew up watching, reading, analyzing a lot of the greats… I wanted to put myself in a position where I could be named with them.

LeBron James

Despite the missed time, the Lakers indicated that the injury is not expected to sideline James for an extended period. He is currently considered “day-to-day,” with his next chance to return coming Sunday at home against the New York Knicks.

LeBron is chasing history

The missed game marks James’ 19th absence of the 2026 season-his highest total since the 2022-23 campaign. Despite the intermittent availability, his production remains elite; in 44 games this season, the Lakers star forward is averaging:

  • 21.4 Points per game
  • 7.0 Assists per game
  • 5.6 Rebounds per game
  • 50.4% Field goal percentage

Beyond the field goal record, James is on the verge of claiming the top spot in another major statistical category. He needs to appear in just six more games this season to pass Robert Parish (1,611) for the most games played in NBA history.

While the elbow contusion provides a temporary setback, James appears poised to continue his assault on the record books as soon as he is cleared for contact.
