It is clear that the Giants are one of the most historic franchises in the NFL and also one of the most successful, with four Super Bowl titles. However, for many years they have struggled to compete and have frequently found themselves picking near the top of the Draft, which reflects just how poor their results have been.
Since winning their last Super Bowl during the 2011 season – in an incredible playoff run where they defeated the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers, played a spectacular NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, and then beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl – the team has only returned to the playoffs twice: in 2016 and most recently in the 2022 season.
Now there appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel.Jaxson Dart has arrived in the NFL and has made an impressive impact, changing the energy of the team. The goal now is to surround him with talent, along with a very experienced head coach like John Harbaugh, who hopes to lead the team back into contention in the NFC East.
Cam Skattebo is recovering but could face competition
Besides the excitement surrounding how Jaxson Dart sparked the Giants’ offense, another rookie also stood out in the running game: Cam Skattebo, who was selected in the fourth round of the last Draft. The major setback came in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, when he suffered a devastating injury: an open tibia fracture, a dislocated ankle, and torn ligaments. It was a very dramatic scene.
Still, Skattebo has made strong progress in his rehabilitation and appears likely to be ready to participate fully in training camp:
“I ran for the first time today, about 75%… it’s the bright side of things,” said the former Arizona State Sun Devils football running back on the Rich Eisen Show.
Skattebo had earned the starting job with the Giants and in just eight games he scored five rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns. However, his role may not be completely secure.
In the upcoming draft, there is a highly intriguing talent the Giants may not be able to pass on: Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, widely viewed as a generational prospect.
Love’s style has often been compared to that of Derrick Henry, who has built a potential Hall of Fame career. Moreover, John Harbaugh previously worked with Henry during his time with the Baltimore Ravens, which could tempt him to pursue a similar dynamic with Love, a player who has all the tools to become a star in this league.
