Why WNBA players are calling Caitlin Clark during their dates

Caitlin Clark may not have been there in person, but her name was definitely in the air.

Minnesota Lynx guards Courtney Williams and Natisha Heideman-better known as the Stud Budz-were out on a double date Wednesday night when they ran into a bit of trouble: a massive waitlist at Topgolf. With a two-to-three hour delay between them and their swings, Williams turned to the camera and joked, “Call Caitlin Clark.”

It wasn’t the first time the dynamic Twitch-streaming duo turned to the Indiana Fever star in a moment of need. Just a few weeks ago during All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Heideman playfully called out for Clark while trying to keep a nightclub open past closing hours. “Where’s Caitlin Clark?” she asked on their 72-hour livestream. The clip quickly went viral.

This time, it wasn’t about dance floors-it was about golf clubs.

Clark’s star power continues to pop up in unexpected places-even on dates and livestreams

Clark’s ties to the Stud Budz aren’t just for laughs. The relationship is real. The No. 1 of the W requested to be part of their Twitch stream during All-Star Weekend and has openly said she watches their content. That connection has made Clark something of an honorary member of their duo-even if it’s just as the person you wish could get you bumped to the front of the line.

And when it comes to golf, Clark isn’t just a name-drop. She’s made appearances at The Masters and even played in the ANNIKA Pro-Am last November. So if anyone could have pulled strings at Topgolf, it might’ve been her.

Unfortunately for Williams and Heideman, Clark was likely too busy to be anyone’s Topgolf plug that night. The 23-year-old has been sidelined with a right groin injury since mid-July and is still awaiting a return date. She’s played in just 13 games this season, averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Her team is currently preparing for Thursday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, but even off the court, Clark’s presence seems to be everywhere-livestreams, date night jokes, and viral moments.

And while she didn’t save the night this time, one thing’s clear: when WNBA players need a boost, Caitlin Clark is the name that comes to mind.
