Why the Dodgers’ Game 1 collapse puts their World Series hopes in jeopardy

Statistics say that teams that win the first game of the World Series have won it on 24 of 30 occasions. Although once game 2 is over and with a resounding victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and a pitching gem by Japanese Yoshinobu Yamamoto, it seems that the Californians want to break that trend that did not favor them.

The Toronto Blue Jays had a spectacular sixth inning in game one of the Fall Classic. With offensive power, they managed to take the team to a lead that was already impossible to overcome. Although Shohei Ohtani was still able to hit a home run, there was no way back.

Given this scenario, it was expected that for the second game on Saturday, October 25, things would be even more in favor of the Blue Jays, but Yamamoto had another script written for the end and development of this game.

Statistics that give a wide advantage to the team that wins the first game of the Fall Classic

Once again, the numbers are cold, and they say that in 76% of cases, the team that takes the lead in the first game has been able to win in Major League Baseball. In 2023, when the Dodgers faced the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series and started by losing Game 1, they never recovered.

The Dodgers had seven days of rest since they won the National League final against the Milwaukee Brewers, and maybe that played against them. But it was just a matter of getting back into the rhythm and back to winning ways.

Los Angeles Dodgers woke up with luxury pitching and offensive help

After sleepwalking into the first game of the 2025 Fall Classic, they recovered their memory and put on a championship-worthy performance. Although there is still a long way to go, the series is already tied, and they have made it clear that they will not allow the championship to slip through their hands so easily.

Yamamoto started and finished the game, demonstrating all the strength he has in his pitching. He is precise and his execution is excellent. Each pitch is a work of art. This only shows that Japan works very well with its pitchers, and that they are ready to succeed in the major leagues.

Now comes the trip to the West Coast this Sunday, October 26, and they will prepare to face game three, trying to continue to show all their strength and execute in the best way so that the second victory arrives.
