Why Super Bowl 60 champs Seattle Seahawks could soon belong to billionaire Jeff Bezos

The possibility of a historic NFL franchise sale has once again brought one of the world’s richest men into the conversation.

As the Seattle Seahawks begin the formal process of finding new ownership, speculation has quickly centered on Jeff Bezos.

The Amazon founder has long been linked to the idea of buying an NFL team, and the timing of Seattle’s sale has reignited discussion about whether he could emerge as a serious bidder.

The franchise officially entered the sale process in early 2026 under the direction of the estate of late owner Paul Allen, who purchased the team in 1997 for $194 million and kept it in Seattle during a turbulent period in the organization’s history.

Allen died in 2018, leaving the team and other sports holdings under the management of his estate, overseen by his sister, Jody Allen.

The Amazon founder has previously been linked to high-profile NFL purchases, and now, with the Seahawks officially on the market following years of speculation, he has emerged as a leading potential buyer.

With an estimated net worth of $224 billion, Bezos has the financial resources to purchase a franchise outright.

This capability sets him apart from other potential buyers, as the Seahawks are expected to command a price in the range of $7 billion to $8 billion, potentially making it the most expensive NFL sale ever.

Industry analysts have emphasized that the combination of the team’s Super Bowl pedigree and a loyal fanbase makes Seattle a highly attractive asset for any billionaire investor.

Bezos‘s NFL aspirations are not new. Back in 2024, he was widely reported as the frontrunner to purchase the New York Jets, which were listed at around $6.5 billion, though he ultimately did not finalize the deal.

Before that, he had expressed interest in the Washington Commanders after Dan Snyder decided to sell the team.

In that instance, however, Josh Harris‘s group completed the purchase for $6.05 billion, leaving Bezos on the sidelines once again. These high-profile pursuits have established him as a recurring figure in league ownership discussions, highlighting his long-term interest in joining the NFL ranks.

Bezos eyes Seahawks as NFL’s newest potential owner

Rumors connecting Bezos to the Seahawks have circulated for nearly eight years, dating back to the passing of co-owner Paul Allen in 2018. The team’s potential sale now reignites these discussions, with betting platforms already showing Bezos as a favorite to acquire the franchise if he decides to submit a formal offer.

According to insiders, the eventual sale of the Seahawks has been “a potential connection for some time,” underscoring the sustained nature of this speculation.

While his financial standing makes him a strong contender, some within the league have expressed caution. Observers point out that Bezos‘s immense business responsibilities, along with potential conflicts of interest given his other ventures, could influence whether he ultimately moves forward.

Nevertheless, owning an NFL team offers more than just prestige – it provides access to a powerful entertainment brand and a platform with significant cultural and business influence.

If Bezos successfully purchases the Seahawks, it would mark a significant milestone in his portfolio, extending his influence beyond technology and media into one of the most watched sports leagues in the world.
