Why Paige Spiranac says “I hate golf” after her latest round

Some days, golf feels like poetry. Other days, you just want to toss your clubs into the nearest lake. Paige Spiranac just had one of those days. The 32-year-old influencer, who once dreamed of a career in professional golf, posted a brutally honest and painfully relatable message on her social media:

“I hate golf lol I went 8 over through 3 holes. Hit an impressive 5 shanks. Then proceeded to shoot 2 under for the next 15 holes”

That “lol” hides a lot. Because only someone who truly loves the sport can still joke after such an emotional rollercoaster. One minute you’re completely defeated, and the next, you’re making birdies like nothing ever happened.

Spiranac’s complicated relationship with golf

Spiranac had already been venting her frustrations online. Just a few days ago, she admitted to hitting two cold, hard shanks in one round. “Not one, two. Something special,” she wrote, with a dose of sarcasm that only those who’ve felt that shame can fully appreciate.

But that’s not all. She’s also been battling hooks off the tee – another nightmare that can make you hate golf in seconds.

“I love golf, but nothing makes me want to quit more than constantly hitting hooks. It’s exasperating.”

Who hasn’t been there? And this is coming from someone who doesn’t play for money or trophies – she plays out of pure passion. Yet even then, the game turns on her when she least expects it.

From golf prospect to brutally honest influencer

Back in 2015, Spiranac helped her college team win the Mountain West Conference championship and even had a brief stint as a professional, winning a Cactus Tour event. But the pressure, criticism, and hyper-competitive environment pushed her away from the circuit.

She didn’t walk away from golf, though – she made it her own. Today, she’s one of the sport’s most followed voices on social media, even if she doesn’t always get the recognition she deserves. Her posts blend technical advice, humor, style, and an unfiltered honesty that sets her apart.

Spiranac once said she’d fallen back in love with golf

Last year, Spiranac said she had fallen in love with the game again. She played more than ever, felt her game improving, and spoke with renewed excitement. But as every golfer knows, that love can be fragile. One bad round, one rough stretch… and everything feels like it’s crumbling.

Paige knows this. And while she may say she hates golf at times, her story shows there’s no deeper hate than the kind that follows true love. Deep down, every one of her posts is a reminder of why, despite everything, we keep coming back to the course.
