Why Maxx Crosby won’t forgive the Ravens for backing out of blockbuster trade

The NFL offseason nearly delivered one of its biggest headline deals involving Maxx Crosby and the Baltimore Ravens, but the blockbuster move ultimately collapsed – and the aftermath appears to have left lingering frustration for the star defender.

Reports surfaced earlier this offseason that the Las Vegas Raiders and the Ravens had been working toward a major trade that would have sent Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for significant draft capital.

The proposed deal reportedly included multiple early-round selections and would have dramatically reshaped both franchises heading into the 2026 season.

However, the move fell apart at the final stages of negotiations, stunning many around the league who believed the agreement was nearly complete.

For Crosby, the situation became even more complicated when reports indicated the Ravens ultimately backed away from the deal due to concerns discovered during the defensive star’s physical evaluation.

The sudden reversal not only halted the trade but also created a wave of speculation about Crosby‘s health and long-term durability.

Crosby responds to the trade drama

Following the reports, Crosby took to social media with a cryptic message that many fans interpreted as a response to the situation.

“Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see,” Crosby posted, fueling speculation that he was frustrated with how the entire situation unfolded.

While Crosby did not directly mention the Ravens or the failed trade in the post, the timing of the message led many observers to believe it was connected to the rumors surrounding the deal.

The situation reportedly centered around concerns tied to a knee injury that required surgery the previous season.

Although Crosby had returned to the field and continued performing at an elite level, the medical review apparently made the Ravens hesitant to finalize such a massive investment.

From Baltimore’s perspective, the caution may have been understandable given the long-term implications of the trade. But from Crosby‘s point of view, the optics were difficult to ignore.

Deals of that magnitude rarely collapse after progressing so far in the negotiation process, and the sudden reversal inevitably raised questions about how both sides handled the situation behind the scenes.

Back in the fold

For now, Crosby remains one of the central pieces of the Raiders defense.

The four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher signed a lucrative extension with the franchise and continues to serve as one of the team’s emotional leaders on and off the field.

His relentless motor, physical playing style, and ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks have made him one of the most disruptive defenders in the NFL.

As a result, the Raiders still view Crosby as a cornerstone player as they look to build a competitive roster for the upcoming season. Even though the trade saga is now in the past, it’s clear that the situation left an impression.

And if the Raiders eventually face the Ravens in a future matchup, it would not be surprising if Crosby approaches that game with a little extra motivation.
