Some fighters let their performances speak for themselves. Lamont Roach Jr.? Not so much.
Whether inside the ring or on social media, Roach isn’t one to stay quiet-especially when there’s unfinished business. And with his upcoming fight against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis on March 1st, he’s making sure everyone knows he’s not backing down.
This bout isn’t just another title defense for Davis or another challenge for Roach-it’s personal. The two first met as amateurs back in 2011, where Davis claimed two victories over Roach. Now, more than a decade later, Roach is looking for payback, and he’s not shy about it.

The back-and-forth between Roach and Davis recently spilled over to social media in the most unexpected way-through a Valentine’s Day poem.
“Roses are red, violets are blue, March 1st sounds like AND THE NEW,” Roach posted on Twitter.
A clear declaration that he’s coming for Tank’s belt.
Davis, never one to back down from a war of words, quickly fired back with his own version of the classic rhyme:
“Roses are red, violets are blue, March 1st sounds like ‘don’t worry baby… you’ll be home soon’ from the hospital, mf!”
With tensions running high and the fight drawing closer, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is set to be the stage for a battle that’s been brewing for over a decade.
While the hype surrounding Roach is growing, not everyone is convinced he has what it takes to dethrone Davis-including boxing legend Terence Crawford.
In a recent interview with Fight Hype, Crawford shared his thoughts on Tank’s competition and suggested that Roach might not have the durability to keep up with Davis over an entire fight.
“They might have a little skills here and there, but mentally, they’re not going to be able to keep it up that whole fight,” Crawford explained.
Crawford went on to name Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis as fighters who might have a better shot at handing Davis his first loss, indirectly downplaying Roach’s chances.
