Why does Dell Curry think his family is better than LeBron James’s when it comes to basketball?

The conversation surrounding the NBA’s greatest families typically begins with the unprecedented father-son pairing of LeBron and Bronny James.

However, Dell Curry and his son Stephen offered a compelling, if lighthearted, counter-argument based on the sheer volume of “mouths at the table.”

During a recent appearance on The Athletic Show, hosted by Marcus Thompson, the discussion quickly evolved into a statistical breakdown of two of the league’s most influential households.

When Thompson jokingly pointed out that the combined scoring of Dell and Steph trailed the James duo by roughly 4,000 points, the elder Curry was quick to redefine the boundaries of the competition.

Dell reminded the room that if they were discussing a “household,” the tally must include his younger son, Seth Curry, who has amassed over 5,500 points in his own right.

The inclusion of Seth immediately flipped the script, pushing the Curry family‘s collective total past the 44,600-point mark.

Thompson doubled down on the family ties, suggesting they could even “cheat” by adding Steph‘s brother-in-law, Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee, to the ledger, a comment that sent both Currys into a fit of laughter.

Redefining the NBA’s most prolific dynasty

The playful back-and-forth eventually led to a direct challenge. Thompson pushed the former Charlotte Hornets sharpshooter to move past the jokes and make a definitive claim.

“Are you claiming supremacy over the James household as a basketball family? Go ahead Dell, say it,” Thompson asked.

While Dell initially looked reluctant to break his diplomatic stance, he ultimately leaned into the competitive spirit that defined his 16-year career.

“Yes, I am … Absolutely. That’s what we are here for. Somebody’s got to say it,” he declared.

This declaration of supremacy comes at a significant time for the Curry patriarch, as the Charlotte Hornets are scheduled to retire his No. 30 jersey on March 19.

As Steph continues to recover from a “runner’s knee” injury that has sidelined him for much of the late season, the appearance served as a reminder of the deep-rooted competitive fire that connects the generations.
