Why Aaron Judge is not a true Yankees legend yet?

Aaron Judge has nothing to prove in Major League Baseball these days, and even less so with the New York Yankees. He is close to winning the American League MVP award for the third time in four years and his home run numbers are already a daily occurrence. However, there are people who still do not position him as a true Bronx legend.

There is no doubt that the New York right fielder is one of the best to ever play in pinstripes. Judge has been a seven-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner. In the past week, Judge surpassed Berra and DiMaggio on the Yankees’ all-time home run list.

Joel Sherman claims a World Series is what Aaron Judge is missing

Joel Sherman, a sportswriter for the New York Post, said it is too early to put Judge ahead of other Yankees legends, and it is because of the one thing missing from the 33-year-old’s resume: a World Series title. He also commented that the outfielder is worthy of the Hall of Fame, but that there are still names ahead of him.

“I think Judge’s message about the home runs, where he passed Yogi Berra and then Joe DiMaggio, was good: ‘It’s all great. Those guys made it by winning championships and I have to do the same.’ And I do think we talk about the Mount Rushmore of the Yankees or how high Judge could go on any list,” Sherman said on the “Pinstripe Post” podcast.

Sherman puts Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Jeter, Ford and Rivera above Judge

“Championships matter, and the ones who were at the top, like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehring, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, Whitey Ford and Mariano Rivera,” Sherman continued. “These are players who were not only champions, but in October they gave their best. And Judge hasn’t done that yet. He’s a guy who can be controlled in the postseason.

The Bronx Bombers are second in the American League East with 84 points and have their playoff berth virtually assured. This is where Judge will have to show that his records are not just applaudable figures, but arguments that will lead him to something bigger, something that will really make history, a World Series title.
