Why Aaron Judge chooses the electrifying atmosphere of the game against Mexico over Yankee Stadium

Aaron Judge said Team USA’s matchup against Mexico delivered one of the best atmospheres of his career, praising the electric crowd environment despite heavy support for the opposing side during World Baseball Classic pool play.

Speaking ahead of Team USA’s semifinal showdown with the Dominican Republic at LoanDepot Park, Aaron Judge reflected on the intense atmosphere during the Americans’ 5-3 victory over Mexico national baseball team, a game played in Houston that felt more like a road contest.

“The game against Mexico was probably the best environment I played in,” Judge said.

It was a lot of fun. A lot of chanting, a lot of them’re up on their feet. USA, Mexico, kind of going back and forth. So it was an absolute blast.

Despite Team USA entering the game expecting a home-field advantage, Mexican supporters dominated the crowd from batting practice through the final out, creating a playoff-like setting filled with chants, boos, and sustained energy throughout the night.

Judge, who served as Team USA’s captain, embraced the hostile environment rather than shying away from it, saying moments like that represent what players dream about growing up.

“I definitely think you see the emotion come out of guys in situations like that,” he added.

That’s what you look for. That’s what you dream of as a kid… getting the opportunity to play in front of fans like that, an environment like that.

The star outfielder played a pivotal role in the victory, launching a two-run opposite-field home run during a decisive five-run third inning that helped lift United States national baseball team to a 3-0 record in Pool B.

The Houston crowd’s energy never faded, with Mexican fans loudly backing their team even after the United States seized control of the game. Judge was repeatedly booed at the plate but remained unfazed, later describing the back-and-forth atmosphere as part of what makes international baseball unique.

According to the Yankees star, emotional environments bring out a higher level of competitiveness and intensity among players, something he hopes continues deeper into the tournament.

“So, looking forward for more environments like that in Miami,” Judge said, referencing the semifinal stage.

Team USA carries momentum into knockout round

The victory kept Team USA undefeated in pool play and positioned the squad for a deep tournament run heading into the elimination rounds. Strong pitching performances and timely offense supported Judge’s early home run, while late defensive execution secured the win despite a late push from Mexico.

Now preparing for a semifinal clash against the Dominican Republic, the Americans will once again face a passionate crowd – something Judge views as a motivating factor rather than a challenge.

For the Team USA captain, the atmosphere surrounding international competition has become one of the defining highlights of the World Baseball Classic experience.
