Who would be more reliable as Dodgers closer in playoffs: Ohtani, Sasaki or Kershaw?

The regular season is coming to an end and the Los Angeles Dodgers have already secured their place in the postseason. However, the team faces a critical question: who will be the reliable closer in October?

With Tanner Scott and Blake Treinen showing inconsistencies, manager Dave Roberts could turn to three unexpected figures: Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki and Clayton Kershaw.

Clayton Kershaw: Experience and poise

Kershaw, who announced his retirement at the end of this season, showed that he can still perform in high-pressure moments. In his recent relief appearance, he retired three batters in a row and kept the tie in the ninth inning. His postseason experience, although with ups and downs, makes him a solid option if you are looking for leadership and emotional control.

Roki Sasaki: youth and speed

The young Japanese pitcher was recently activated after a shoulder injury and surprised with a perfect outing, including two strikeouts with 99 mph fastballs. Although his season as a starter was inconsistent, his performance as a reliever has been promising. Sasaki could be the Dodgers secret weapon if he maintains his control and aggressiveness.

Shohei Ohtani: the luxury wild card

Although Ohtani has primarily been a designated hitter this season, his ability as a pitcher should not be underestimated. While he has not been used as a closer, his versatility and talent make him a viable option in critical situations. Ohtani has expressed his willingness to help the team in any role during the playoffs.

Who should close the games?

Dave Roberts’ decision will not be easy. Kershaw brings experience, Sasaki offers youth and explosiveness, and Ohtani represents a multifaceted option. It will all depend on the context of each game and the physical condition of the pitchers. What is certain is that the Dodgers have a wealth of talent to choose from, and the closer who prevails could define the team’s fate in the postseason.
