Who won the NBA Finals MVP award in 2025 and how much will he receive?

On June 22, 2025, the Oklahoma City Thunder claimed their first NBA championship since relocating, defeating the Indiana Pacers in a thrilling Game 7. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named Finals MVP right after the final buzzer, adding a crowning achievement to an already spectacular season.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s dominance wasn’t just during the regular season; he elevated his game in the Finals. Averaging over 30 points per game and delivering clutch performances when it mattered most, he was the clear choice for the Bill Russell Trophy-Finals MVP.

Season MVP Triple Crown?

The Finals MVP joins Gilgeous-Alexander’s regular-season MVP, won in May, marking him as the first player since LeBron James in 2013 to secure both in the same year

He becomes just the second Canadian MVP after Steve Nash, and now stands among legends who have won MVP in both the regular and Finals in the same season. This cements his place not just in Thunder lore

Teammates and coaches praised his leadership and consistency. Following the game, head coach credited SGA’s calm poise and “gameondemand” mindset-particularly during Indiana’s late push in Game 7.

Beyond the Trophy

Contrary to some expectations, the NBA does not include a direct cash prize for Finals MVP in its official regulations. The glory is real, but the league doesn’t issue a monetary award for this title.

While there’s no official check, the award cascades into financial gain. GilgeousAlexander is in line for a supermax extension worth up to $294 million-the kind of contract only justified by sustained elite performance and accolades.

A Finals MVP boosts endorsement potential, international brand recognition, and future earning power. Companies and sponsors gravitate to champions; as a Canadian star, GilgeousAlexander’s commercial appeal has soared.

As the Thunder celebrate, their focus already shifts to locking in GilgeousAlexander longterm, maximizing sponsorship opportunities, and building a championship roster around their 26 yea rold superstar. His MVP double naturally positions OKC as potential dynasty material.
