For over three decades, NFL legend Bill Belichick has kept a unique tradition alive, unveiling his “NFL All-Belichick
Team” every Valentine’s Day.
Despite stepping down as head coach of the New England Patriots in 2023, Belichick continues the custom as he transitions to his new role as the head coach of the University of North Carolina football team.
Who is Bill Belichick’s current QB crush?
On February 14th, Belichick took to Instagram to share his 2024 roster, which sparked discussion among NFL fans, especially regarding his quarterback choice.
Despite Lamar Jackson’s narrow defeat in the MVP race earlier this year, it was Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen who earned Belichick’s nod as the top QB.
Belichick didn’t offer much in the way of detailed explanation but has long praised Allen’s playing style.
“On Valentine’s Day, there is usually a lot of love in the air,” Belichick wrote in his Instagram post.
“30 years ago today, there was not a lot of love in Cleveland when Art Modell decided to move the team and leave me behind. I am not sure if anyone then would’ve cared about my All-Belichick Team. I’m not sure if anyone even cares now. But here is it. Thank you Michael Lombardi for helping me curate this list.”
Belichick’s decision to pick Allen over Jackson is significant, given the close MVP race between the two quarterbacks.
Allen, who received 27 first-place MVP votes to Jackson’s 23, has earned praise for his consistency and ability to elevate the Bills’ performance year after year.
In fact, before their December 2023 clash, Belichick compared Allen’s level of sustained excellence to that of Tom Brady, a hallmark of the Patriots dynasty.
“Once Brady got to a certain point there in ’03, that’s pretty much the way he was the rest of his career,” Belichick said at the time.
“Different style of play, but once those quarterbacks usually get to that point they’re usually able to sustain it.”
As Belichick prepares for his first season coaching UNC, where expectations are moderate, it’s clear his influence on the game, and his unwavering eye for talent, remains strong, even off the NFL field.
With his new college role ahead, the question remains: Will he find the same success at UNC that he enjoyed with the Patriots?
