The gunman behind Monday night’s mass shooting at a high-rise office tower in Midtown Manhattan – a building that houses the NFL’s New York headquarters – has been identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, Nevada, according to law enforcement sources.

Tamura is accused of killing at least five people, including an NYPD officer, and injuring several more after he stormed 345 Park Avenue around 6:30 p.m., armed with an AR-15-style rifle. The building, a 44-floor skyscraper, is home to major corporate tenants including Blackstone, KPMG, Bank of America, and the National Football League.

Location and Immediate Impact

Surveillance footage captured Tamura calmly walking into the building during the Monday evening rush, rifle in hand. Minutes later, chaos erupted inside the tower as multiple gunshots were reported across several floors.

Sources told the press that Tamura’s assault rifle was blood-stained, and he appeared to have carried out the attack with intent. He reportedly fired indiscriminately, creating widespread panic among workers and leading to a building-wide lockdown.

At least six others were seriously injured, and authorities say the number of victims could still rise as more information becomes available.

Who Was Shane Tamura?

Shane Tamura was a standout running back who graduated from high school in 2016. Tamura’s football career started at the Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita and ended at the Granada Hills Varsity Boys football team.

According to records sourced from MaxPreps.com, Shane wore jersey #2 for Granada Hills in the 2015 season and he rushed for 616 yards on 126 carries, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and scoring 5 rushing touchdowns. He also stood out on special teams, averaging 29.5 yards per kickoff return, earning regional recognition.

Earlier, as a junior varsity player at Golden Valley High School during the 2014-15 season, Tamura logged 774 rushing yards on 139 carries, with 11 touchdowns, along with 103 receiving yards and 298 kickoff return yards, as per his records on Hudl. He totaled 1,346 all-purpose yards, averaging over 134 yards per game.

Tamura “has a documented mental health history,” said New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch in a press conference.

No known connection between Tamura and the building or its tenants – including the NFL or Blackstone – has yet been established. However, sources suggest the shooter may have intentionally targeted the high-profile location. Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding any potential motive.

“His motives are still under investigation and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,” she said. “345 Park Avenue is a commercial office building whose tenants include the NFL, Rudin Management, KPMG and Blackstone.”

Tamura had a valid concealed carry permit from Nevada. His vehicle was found parked near the building.

Death on the 33rd Floor

Tamura was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor, according to NYPD investigators. The motive behind his deadly rampage remains under investigation.

Photos obtained by local media show the gunman’s mugshot, his firearms permit, and the bloodied rifle he used during the attack.

Police and sheriff’s department units responded in force, and the building was placed on lockdown. Streets surrounding Park Avenue and East 51st Street were shut down, with commuters warned of traffic disruptions. Witnesses described scenes of chaos, with some employees seen raising their hands and fleeing under police direction.

Emergency services continue to assess the full scale of the tragedy, while federal and state authorities are reviewing Tamura’s background and digital footprint for signs of planning or ideological motive.
