Off the field, Mike Vrabel has not been alone in any of the most important moments of his career. At his side has always been his wife, Jen Vrabel, with whom he has had a relationship for more than 25 years that began at Ohio State University and has been consolidated throughout a life linked to professional football.
The couple met when they were both student-athletes at Ohio State. According to Jen in an interview with The Tennessean, it all started when she saw Mike in a freshman time management class. He sat at the front of the classroom, spoke frequently and ended up catching her attention. It was she who took the first step by asking the teacher for his phone number, initiating a relationship that would become inseparable.
Jen Vrabel also had a distinguished career as a collegiate athlete
Although Mike Vrabel was in the spotlight as a football player, Jen also shone in the sporting arena. She was part of the Ohio State volleyball team from 1993 to 1996, during which time she earned significant recognition: twice All-District by the AVCA, two All-Big Ten selections and Academic All-Big Ten honors.Jen graduated in 1998 with a degree in dental hygiene and, years later, returned to college to earn a degree in exercise science. Mike has always emphasized the influence Ohio State had on both of their lives, noting that the institution profoundly shaped their personal and professional development.
The Vrabels conquered the NFL as players and coaches
Mike was selected in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, a year before Jen graduated. In 1999, the couple married and have since gone through every stage of the demanding NFL world together.
Vrabel’s playing career spanned more than a decade and culminated in 2011, with three Super Bowl titles to his name. He then made the jump to the bench, first at Ohio State and then as head coach of the Tennessee Titans in 2018, a time when he publicly thanked his wife’s constant support.
In 2025, when he was introduced as the head coach of the New England Patriots, Vrabel again mentioned Jen as a key pillar in his journey in the league.
Jen and Mike Vrabel formed a sports family
The couple has two sons, Tyler and Carter, who grew up surrounded by the NFL environment. Tyler played college football at Boston College and later was on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. Carter, on the other hand, pursued a career in college baseball.
Despite the professional demands, the couple has managed to protect their personal time. Jen revealed that Fridays have become their special night, a space that both value as a time for family and couple connection.
Away from the spotlight, Jen Vrabel has been a constant, low-key and decisive partner in the life of one of the most respected coaches in the NFL today.
