Maggie Gehring, a content creator for Kansas alumni team JHX Hoops in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), made headlines after being hospitalized following injuries she suffered during an on-court brawl at the end of JHX Hoops’ game against AfterShocks, Wichita State‘s alumni team.
Gehring, who creates content for the team’s social media channels and regularly travels with the squad throughout the tournament, revealed that she spent the night in the emergency room because of the severity of her injuries.
“Since there’s already tons of videos circulating, might as well share what I’ve been up to,” Gehring wrote, alongside a clip of the incident on X. “Spent last night in the ER.”
The influencer explained that she suffered an open nasal fracture, multiple breaks to her nose, and a deviated septum, injuries that will require further evaluation by specialists.

The incident took place after JHX Hoops’ 64-59 victory over AfterShocks. Videos shared on social media show Marcus Keene shoving Jacob Hanna, who was sent crashing into Gehring, accidentally causing the severe facial injuries.
The altercation resulted in nine ejections, forcing both teams to finish the game with only six available players each.
Despite the incident, Gehring showed her support for JHX Hoops ahead of the tournament final.
“Hey JHX…. finish it for me!,” she wrote, referring to Wednesday’s championship game against Kentucky’s alumni team at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
The incident has sparked widespread reaction on social media, where videos of the brawl and photos of Gehring’s injuries have gone viral as she continues her recovery.
