Jesus Montero, a former MLB player, died on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after fighting for his life for more than two weeks in intensive care following a motorcycle accident in Venezuela. The former MLB star who played for the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, passed away due to injuries sustained in the tragic accident
His representatives launched a GoFundMe on October 6, 2025, to cover the costs of his hospital bills on behalf of his family, which includes his partner and two children. Timely updates on his condition were being provided on the GoFundMe page. The last update posted on the GoFundMe page on October 17, 2015, said: “Jesus remains in the ICU, with a guarded prognosis. He is currently on dialysis, as his kidneys are still not responding as we had hoped.
He recently underwent surgery to stabilize his leg, but we still need to move forward with a delicate operation on his chest, which is necessary for his recovery. Some people on social media doubted the funding to help Jesus Montero given that he had played for the New York Yankees and several even warned it as an alleged scam.
Jesus Montero’s family
According to reports, Jesus Montero was married to Taneth Gimenez, who is originally from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and is a model and fitness instructor. According to comments on social media, they were separated. Some reports claim that they met during a trip to the beaches of Morrocoy in Venezuela, but sources are unclear. However, it is known that Taneth Gimenez and Jesus Montero have two children.
His daughter, named Loren Alejandra, was born in 2014. His next child, a son named Jesus Alejandro, was born in December 2015 in Venezuela. In his 2015 interviews (while playing for the Seattle Mariners), Montero often mentioned how becoming a father (to his daughter) had changed him.
In a July 2015 report by Bob Dutton of the News Tribune, he told reporters in a media interaction that becoming a father (then to his daughter) had changed him and motivated him to work hard. At the time he was playing for the Mariners. “I want to keep working hard to get back here,” he said. “I just think about my daughter. And I do good things. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.”
In particular
I particularly remember Jesus Montero in the Navegantes del Magallanes practices of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) for the 2008-2009 season. Jesus Montero was originally signed by the Leones del Caracas, the eternal rivals of the Navegantes, who later took him in the draft called unprotected players. Jesus Montero only played with Magallanes in the 2009-2010 season and before the 2012-2013 campaign he was traded to Cardenales de Lara. Similarly, he was traded from the New York Yankees to the Seattle Mariners. He also played with Aguilas del Zulia. In the Mexican Baseball League, I also remember him with Sultanes de Monterrey and Generales de Durango.
