Who is Jake Pau’s fiancee Jutta Leerdam? Fans roll out tributes after she suffers nasty fall

The spotlight surrounding Jake Paul often follows him wherever he goes, especially after his fight with Anthony Joshua. But over the weekend it shifted firmly onto his fiancée, Jutta Leerdam, for far more serious reasons.

The 26-year-old Dutch speed skater, widely regarded as one of the world’s elite in her discipline, suffered a crushing setback during Winter Olympics trials that has cast doubt over her hopes of competing at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.

Leerdam, a world champion and one of the most recognizable figures in speed skating, fell heavily during the 1,000-meter event.

The crash immediately ended her chances of qualifying for the Olympics in that distance. Cameras caught her visibly emotional as she skated off the ice in tears, a moment that quickly spread across social media and prompted an outpouring of support from fans.

Despite the disappointment, her Olympic dream is not entirely over. Leerdam remains in contention in the 500-meter event, where she finished second behind fellow Dutch skater Femke Kok.

Kok posted a winning time of 36.873 seconds, while Leerdam followed closely with a time of 37.242. The narrow margin kept her firmly in the conversation as selectors weigh their final decisions.

A champion tested at the worst possible moment

The timing of the fall could hardly have been worse. Leerdam entered the qualifiers brimming with confidence, convinced her form was peaking at exactly the right moment. Speaking candidly ahead of the decisive races, she explained just how strong she felt in training.

“I’m skating so well in practice. What those girls are skating here, I could have easily skated today,” she said, via Olympics.com. “I’ve skated 1:14 here 25 times, and I feel even better now than I have in the past two years. I’m really hitting it.”

Those words only deepened the sense of heartbreak surrounding her fall. For an athlete who has built her career on precision, power, and consistency, seeing months of preparation undone in seconds was difficult to watch.

Now, her Olympic fate rests with the national selection committee, which will determine whether she earns a spot on the roster for the 2026 Games in Milan Cortina.

While Leerdam was battling gravity on the ice, Paul was, as the couple often jokes, battling algorithms.

How did Paul and Leerdam meet?

Their relationship began in thoroughly modern fashion, with the YouTuber-turned-boxer reaching out through social media. What started as a direct message quickly turned into one of the most talked-about crossovers between combat sports and Olympic athletics.

Since going public, the pair have leaned into the spotlight, supporting each other across vastly different sporting worlds. Paul has been a regular presence at skating events, while Leerdam has shown support ringside during his boxing career.

Their engagement only amplified public interest, making her Olympic journey a storyline far beyond the speed skating community.

For now, uncertainty defines the road ahead. Leerdam‘s fall was a brutal reminder of how unforgiving elite sport can be, but her resume, resilience, and near-miss in the 500 meters ensure she remains very much in the picture.
