The rivalry betweenPatrick Mahomes and Josh Allen has been building year after year, with both quarterbacks pushing their teams to the limit. In recent seasons, Mahomes has had the upper hand, capturing three Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs while Allen has yet to secure one with the Buffalo Bills. Still, the debate over who is truly the better quarterback remains one of the most compelling discussions in the NFL.

Determining who is the better quarterback between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen is no easy task, as countless factors come into play. Still, the question has fueled intense debates across sports talk shows, with analysts and fans offering varying opinions. What most can agree on, is that they may well be the two best quarterbacks in the NFL today.

NFL analyst weighs on the Mahomes vs. Allen debate

Bill Simmons, a well-known sports journalist with extensive knowledge of football, has built a reputation for analyzing the league’s top talent. In his latest podcast episode, Simmons discussed his “pyramid” ranking of the best NFL quarterbacks for the 2025 season, breaking down who he believes stands at the top of the game.

This opinion has sparked all kinds of comments, some in favor and some against. Nevertheless Simmons had a bold opinion, and he said, “I did not have Patrick Mahomes at the top of the pyramid,” the expert in NFL start saying.

“When it came right down to it, I just think Josh Allen’s the best quarterback in the league. Game by game, regular season, durability. He can make chicken salad out of chicken” said Simmon.

The expert of the NFL also added that, “From what we saw from Mahomes last year, which I want to go into in a second, I just don’t think it’s fair to put him over Josh Allen, especially because Mahomes didn’t win the Super Bowl last year.”

Bill Simmons also revealed his full quarterback pyramid, ranking what he believes are the top players at the position. Interestingly, he placed Patrick Mahomes on the same tier as Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow, a decision that quickly caught the attention of NFL fans.

In trhird tier there are four players, Jayden Daniels from the commanders, Jalen Hurts from the Eagles, Jordan Love from the Green Bay Packers and Brock Purdy from the San Francisco 49ers. Below them a high amount of players like Tua Tagovailoa, Cam Ward, Dak Prescott. Baker Mayfield and others.

For now the discussion between Allen and Mahomes is finished by Bill simmons, one of the many analyst and expert that has touched the topic. Nevertheless, that isn’t the last word as there are a huge amount of players showcasing their best performance.
