The San Diego Padres were ready to take on the Atlanta Braves in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series at Petco Park. Not that the fans needed it to get pumped but they invited two major sports personalities that represent the region.
Pro skater Tony Hawk was invited to throw out the first pitch and professional wrestler Rey Mysterio was also invited to join the team on the field as they took their defensive positions, and the crowd went nuts when this happened.
These two are San Diego natives and have been fan favorites sin ever, so you can only imagine how crazy Petco Park was rocking prior to Wednesday’s game. Tony Hawk enjoyed the game from a row-2 seat and Mysterio from a box suite.
Hometown heroes
Both of these superstar athletes are hometown heroes. Tony Hawk started his career on the streets of San Diego only to become the world’s greatest professional skater and now he can enjoy his success with his family and fans.
Rey Mysterio spent a lot of his time as a young wrestler in Tijuana, Mexico, just across the border. He learned how to wrestle there with his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr. and now he is a world recognized athlete.
If there are two sports figures that the people of San Diego love, is these two as the electrified the crows prior to the game. The Padres have a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the Wild Card Round.
