Travis Kelce will celebrate his 36th birthday this Sunday alongside, most importantly, his fiancée, pop superstar Taylor Swift. Also expected to join the gathering are his brother Jason, with whom he co-hosts the popular podcast New Heights, his sister-in-law Kylie, their four daughters, his parents, and of course several of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates, led by his close friend and offensive leader Patrick Mahomes.
In recent days, however, Kelce admitted to his brother that he is not much of a fan when it comes to marking his birthday. While not exactly the Grinch of birthdays, he confessed that he simply does not enjoy celebrating his own. Now, though, being engaged to the most famous singer on the planet, it seems that this year’s occasion may take on a different meaning.
It’s not a good day, it’s just an annoying day for me. I don’t want to get into the Grinch of birthdays but I’m just not in on birthdays,
He explained during a recent episode of New Heights. Jason attempted to lighten the moment, suggesting that perhaps Travis had enjoyed strong statistical performances on past birthdays with the Chiefs. His younger brother, though, replied with a laugh:
I don’t think we should look that up, because I don’t think they’re very good.
Birthday and game day for Travis Kelce
Once again, Kelce’s birthday coincides with a game day. On Sunday, October 5, the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in a matchup where both teams are dealing with injuries to key players.
In recent appearances, Kelce has not looked quite like the dominant force he once was. In truth, his decline began two seasons ago, which is natural. He is now in his 13th NFL campaign, and the body does not respond the same way it did when he first entered the league.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, however, expressed confidence in his star tight end’s performance during this season’s games:
I thought he played well in both the run and the pass game. I thought he looked strong all the way through. He’s in great shape right now. That’s the important part. He came back and trained hard and aggressive for this thing.
On the podcast, Jason brought up the upcoming celebration, telling his brother, “Got a birthday coming up, Bubba.” Travis responded with his trademark humor:
Comes around every year, if you’re lucky.
Asked about how he might mark the day, he said:
Free garage beers for everyone on the team.” He quickly followed up with a candid remark: “My birthday just isn’t a f***ing, you know.
It remains to be seen whether his fiancée has planned something special despite his reluctance to celebrate. Given the combination of family, teammates, and Taylor Swift by his side, this year’s birthday may turn out to be one Kelce remembers fondly, regardless of his usual indifference.
