What’s wrong with Kylian Mbappe’s knee? “There is a gray area”

The physical condition of Kylian Mbappe was one of the central themes of Raul Varela’s editorial in La Tribu. The journalist focused on the uncertainty surrounding the French striker’s injury and the lack of clarity about the true state of his knee, a situation that, he explained, is surrounded by doubts and nuances.

Varela recalled that a few days ago he asked about what he defined as “the knee of discord” of the Real Madrid attacker and explained that the information received pointed to a situation difficult to classify. According to what he said on air, what struck him most was that he was told of a kind of middle ground in the player’s diagnosis.

A situation surrounded by unknowns

The journalist said that, among the things that were told to him, there was a phrase that perfectly summarized the player’s moment: “There is a gray area.” A definition that, in his opinion, perfectly reflects the current scenario. “Like all grays, it is neither white nor black. Neither serious nor mild. Neither healthy nor sick. Neither sportingly fit nor medically unfit,” Varela explained during his speech.

From there, the presenter described the context surrounding the French striker and the difficulties in really knowing what his physical condition is. According to him, the player himself would be trying to preserve his privacy and also manage the timing of his recovery, something that, he recalled, has been usual throughout his career.

The debate about his impact on the team

In his analysis, Varela also focused on Real Madrid’s competitive moment and how the uncertainty surrounding the player’s fitness mixes with the decisive stage of the season. “Maybe he’ll be back for the first leg against City, maybe for the second leg against City. Maybe not that day or the other. Everything is maybe,” he said during his commentary.

The journalist added that this situation comes while the striker maintains very high goal-scoring records in Europe. In fact, he recalled that only Harry Kane surpasses his numbers on the continent, although he stressed that his impact on the team is generating divided opinions. In this sense, Varela was clear in summarizing his view of the player’s moment within the team: “He is not the problem, but he is not being the solution either,” he said during his speech on the program.

Despite the doubts, the presenter wanted to send a positive message to the French striker and wished that he could recover as soon as possible, either after his visit to Paris to see a specialist or back at work in Valdebebas. “We want him to be able to play again without pain, without fear and without negative consequences,” he explained.

However, he also made a final recommendation to the player himself and those around him. In his opinion, it would be advisable to offer greater clarity on his situation to avoid speculation. “It would be advisable for him to put aside the maybes and clarify the greys by giving normality, clarity and transparency to his situation to some fans who cling to his battered knee and his goals in order to finish the season with a smile,” he concluded.
