What’s next for Terence Crawford if he wins or loses against Canelo Alvarez?

At 37 years of age, future fight offers may be scarce, so Terence Crawford is on the verge of making history in the world of boxing. The American has extensive experience in the welterweight division and was successful in his first foray into super welterweight to take the WBA title from Israil Madrimov. However, in one more adventure, he has decided to move up two divisions to make his super middleweight debut to challenge Canelo Alvarez, who is the undisputed 167-pound champion.

If the Omaha, Nebraska native is victorious, the question will be, what’s next? For the promoters it will be a gold mine where the rematch can be agreed for May 2026, a date on which Canelo Alvarez has his next fight window. However, many analysts see this possibility as distant once the Mexican has dominated the category since 2018 and there has not been a boxer from the division itself who has come close to taking the throne.

Terence Crawford’s potential fights in the welterweight or super lightweight division

One of the boxers who is willing to face Terence Crawford is Devin Haney, who is currently preparing to fight Brian Norman on November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Haney is amazed with Crawford for this new challenge in his life. He also believes he will find a way to achieve it, despite being a slight underdog.“What else is there to do? If he wins or loses, what else is there to do?” Haney asked on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak on their YouTube channel.

Somewhere, Canelo Alvarez, with a record of 63 wins (39 KOs), two draws and two losses, is smiling. The 35-year-old has no intention of relinquishing his throne, no matter what Haney has to say. From experience against brawlers like Edgar Berlanga to speedsters like William Scull, Alvarez has experience that cannot be discounted. As for the challenges Crawford presents, he believes he has seen it all before. Will it be the ideal place for his retirement?

Hanging up the gloves in Las Vegas is not a bad option for Terence Crawford

The Omaha boxer also has an enviable resume. It has been more than a year since his last fight. But while he was grinning from ear to ear after his victory over Madrimoy to be super welterweight champion, he wants to stay in good shape. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) has not discussed what his future might look like after Alvarez. Haney, however, sees nothing else pending. “He’s been undisputed twice, in two weight classes,” said Haney, who could move up to the welterweight division and challenge him in 2026.

However, the fight against Canelo Alvarez is still to be held on Saturday, September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the four super middleweight titles. A fight where the Mexican has been placed as the favorite to win. The bookmakers indicate that the fight could go the full 12 rounds and will be by unanimous decision. However, will Canelo be able to knock out the American?
