By now, everyone and their aunties knows that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are NFL icons, but high-end restaurateurs? That’s right, the legendary Kansas City Chiefs duo just opened a luxury restaurant, and experts say it’s a must-go experience for football and food fans alike.
A few months ago, Kelce and Mahomes announced the imminent opening of 1587 Prime Steakhouse, a high-end restaurant that, as its name suggests, would specialize in steaks.
The opening was scheduled for September 17, but tables sold out within minutes of reservations opening in August. Currently, you have to book weeks in advance to get a spot.
The restaurant is located inside the Loews Hotel in downtown Kansas City and quickly became a city favorite. But what’s dinner like at 1587 Prime? Business Insider specialty critic Kelsey Huson shares her experience.
Is 1587 Prime Steakhouse worth dining at?
Huson is a confessed four-way fan: she’s a Chiefs fan, has been a Kelce fan for 10 years, is a Swiftie at heart, and loves dining at high-end restaurants. Thus, 1587 Prime “was immediately on my radar.”
For the expert, “dinner felt like more than just a meal,” it was an experience in itself. From the marble entrance with gold accents to the wall-mounted refrigerators displaying the available cuts and wines.
“I was impressed by the details, especially the presentation of themed cocktails and specialty dishes,” Huson said.
She explained that the “Players” section of the menu is a tribute to Kelce, Mahomes, and their laydies.
Per Huson, the section features four drinks: Showtime, one of Mahomes’ nicknames; Big Yeti, in honor of Kelce; Queen B, after Patrick’s wife, Brittany; and The Alchemy, after a song on one of Taylor Swift’s albums.
What about the prices at 1587 Prime?
The prices aren’t cheap, but they’re in line with any high-end restaurant. Cocktails range from $18 to $25 a drink. Soups, salads, and appetizers range from $16 to $40, and the rest of the menu goes up to $130.
In total, the expert says, her party spent just under $800 before tips. Their consumption included six cocktails, two appetizers, four entrées, three side dishes, two desserts, and add-ons.
While Huson admitted the bill may be steep, the experience was worth it. It’s not just that Mahomes and Kelce’s names are front and center at 1587 Prime; the concept is an experience worth the price.
