What was Messi’s stance on the Finalissima that ended up being canceled?

Football fans have been left without one of the most anticipated matches since the announcement of the Spain vs. Argentina showdown, and now Lionel Messi’s reaction to the cancellation of the Finalissima has been revealed.

Details about Messi’s stance revealed

According toESPN, the Argentina national team captain was left “disappointed” after it was confirmed that La Albiceleste‘s match for another title would not take place, as he considered it a very important competitive opportunity.

For Messi, the match where he was set to face Lamine Yamal for the first time was the perfect scenario to prepare for the FIFA World Cup-a high-caliber preparation duel for what’s coming in the summer, according to the source cited.

The match was scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, on March 27, but efforts were made to reschedule it and find a new venue due to the tensions unfolding in the Middle East.

UEFA issued a statement on March 15 stating that it was impossible to reach an agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to rethink the venue, although in Argentina they rejected the possibility of playing the Finalissima at the Santiago Bernabéu.

In this scenario, and despite the reports that emerged, Lionel Messi had no role in the negotiations held by UEFA, CONMEBOL, and the organizers.

The Argentine star only saw the Finalissima as a perfect opportunity to win another title with the Argentina national team, expanding the trophy collection that positions him as the most decorated footballer in history. His most recent title came with Inter Miami when he won the MLS Cup last December.
