The race for the 2025 WNBA championship hits its most electrifying phase this weekend as the semifinals tip off. One of the most anticipated matchups features Las Vegas Aces against the playoff sensation Indiana Fever. Two franchises with very different stories this season – but both with one goal in mind: advancing one step closer to the title.

The Aces, the No. 2 seed in the regular season, come into this series with experience, talent, and the pressure of defending their crown. Led by A’ja Wilson – one of the league’s most dominant stars – Las Vegas will look to impose its physicality, up-tempo style, and elite defense from the opening tip. This team has been here before and knows exactly what it takes to win in September.

On the other side, Indiana never got the memo. The Fever shocked everyone by knocking off the No. 3 seed Atlanta Dream in the first round, showing grit, smart execution, and a level of resilience that has fired up their growing fan base. Despite entering the playoffs as the sixth seed, they’re no longer flying under the radar. The team has grown with every game – and now faces its biggest test yet: taking down a powerhouse on their home court.

When and Where?

  • Date & Time: Sunday, September 21, 2025 – 3:00 p.m. ET
  • TV: National broadcast on ABC
  • Streaming: Available on the ESPN app and ESPN.com

Why Is This Matchup So Intriguing?

Las Vegas, stacked with postseason experience and a deep roster, has been dominant all year and is hungry for a third straight Finals appearance.

Indiana, a team that wasn’t expected to make much noise in the postseason, has become one of the most dangerous underdogs of the playoffs.

This semifinal series follows a best-of-five format, with Games 1, 2, and (if necessary) 5 played in Las Vegas – giving the Aces a home-court edge.

Game 1 of this series isn’t just about starting strong – it’s about making a statement. With star power, playoff intensity, and two very different styles of basketball clashing, this matchup is must-watch from the opening tip.
