The 2025 French Open women’s singles final promises a thrilling encounter as top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka faces off against second-seeded Coco Gauff on Saturday, June 7. This marks the first French Open final between the top two seeds since 2013.

Sabalenka enters the final with impressive momentum, having ended Iga Swiatek‘s 26-match winning streak at Roland Garros in the semifinals. Her 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0 victory over the four-time champion not only halted Swiatek‘s dominance but also marked Sabalenka‘s first final appearance at the French Open.

Reflecting on the win, Sabalenka stated, “It was a big match, and it felt like a final, but I know that the job is not done yet. And I have to go out there on Saturday, and I have to fight and I have to bring my best tennis, and I have to work for that title, especially if it’s going to be Coco.”

Gauff, on the other hand, showcased her prowess by defeating French wildcard Lois Boisson 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals. This victory propels her into her second French Open final, having previously reached the final in 2022.

Gauff expressed her growth since her last appearance, saying, “My first final here I was super nervous, and I kind of wrote myself off before the match even happened. Obviously here, I have a lot more confidence just from playing a Grand Slam final before and doing well in one.”

Sabalenka and Gauff have a well-balanced head-to-head record, each winning five of their ten previous encounters. Their most recent meeting was at the 2025 Madrid Open final, where Sabalenka triumphed 6-3, 7-6(3).

Gauff, 21, is aiming for her second Grand Slam title after winning the 2023 US Open, where she defeated Sabalenka in the final. Sabalenka, 27, seeks her fourth major title, having previously won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024, and the US Open in 2024.

Both players have shown exceptional form on clay this season. Sabalenka has reached three finals and won three titles, while Gauff has made it to the finals in Madrid and Rome, showcasing her consistency on the surface.
