Los Angeles Football Club has started the Major League Soccer season on the right foot. Following a 0-0 draw against Austin FC on Saturday night, the team has now gone five games without conceding a goal.
This brings their total to 450 minutes without conceding a goal, and although Myrto Uzuni’s disallowed goal could have ended their 360-minute unbeaten streak, LAFC has made league history.
An MLS Record
Marc Dos Santos’s team has struck the perfect balance between attack and defense, becoming an impenetrable wall for their opponents, who have been unable to score against them this season, whether at home or on the road.
During the match against Austin FC, Myrto Uzuni tried to break this streak, but her goal was disallowed first for offside and then by an incredible save from Hugo Lloris in stoppage time, allowing the team to hold onto a historic mark.
LAFC broke a record held by the Vancouver Whitecaps since 2012, when they went 427 minutes without conceding a goal. Now, the Black & Gold squad not only managed to keep a clean sheet for that duration but surpassed it, setting a new MLS record.
The list of the best streaks also includes the 2007 New York Red Bulls with 420 minutes unbeaten, the 2025 St. Louis CITY SC with 367 minutes, and the 2009 Seattle Sounders with 349 minutes.
Longest scoreless streaks to start an MLS season:
- 450 – LAFC, 2026
- 427 – Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2012
- 420 – New York Red Bulls, 2007
- 367 – St. Louis CITY SC, 2025
- 349 – Seattle Sounders FC, 2009
This also made the French goalkeeper the first in MLS history to start a season with five consecutive shutouts. Lloris officially retired from the French national team on January 9, 2023, shortly after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as the player with the most international appearances in the history of Les Bleus (145 matches) and the one who wore the captain’s armband the most times (121).
Now, since his arrival in American soccer and at age 39, the 2018 World Cup champion has been instrumental in helping the Los Angeles team keep a clean sheet thanks to his experience, leadership, and reflexes.
In addition to the record, the club has also started the season with positive results, establishing itself as one of the top title contenders. Its dominant start is generating high expectations among fans and analysts.
With this milestone, LAFC reaffirms its status as one of the strongest teams in MLS and makes clear not only its aspirations in the Western Conference but also its desire to make history.
On Sunday, April 5, the team will host Orlando City at Banc of California Stadium for an MLS match-will they manage to extend this unbeaten streak?
