The New York Yankees are determined to bounce back in the 2026 MLB season after falling short of expectations last year. During the 2025 season, one of the most talked-about storylines involved the struggles of Anthony Volpe, who is now focused on returning and helping the team.

When will Anthony Volpe return?

The Yankees shortstop recently made a rehab appearance with the Somerset Patriots (Double-A) and is now back inside the Yankee Stadium clubhouse.

Anthony Volpe is back in the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium. Said he came through his first rehab outing feeling great. Off today… back in a game tomorrow (Thursday),” posted Meredith Marakovits on X.

Volpe is currently recovering from a labrum tear. Last Tuesday, he played five innings in Double-A, saying he felt very good being back on the field.

Even so, his MLB return timeline will take time. The organization has a clear development plan for 2026, focused on a gradual comeback.

According to MLB.com, Brian Cashman wants Volpe to reach at least 55 plate appearances and play consistently in the minor leagues before making his 2026 MLB debut.

New York needs him, but patience will be key. The Yankees started strong this season but have cooled off, currently holding a 9-8 record with seven losses in their last 10 games.
