Mike Tyson is preparing for a comeback fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history, thrilled fans as recently as 2020 with an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., where he demonstrated that even at 54, he still had impressive power. However, at 58, health concerns have emerged as he returns to the ring.

After stepping away from professional boxing, Tyson has dealt with several health issues, including chronic knee and back problems.
He experienced a severe sciatica episode two years ago that temporarily confined him to a wheelchair and cane.
Earlier this year, an ulcer flare-up further delayed his fight with Paul, originally set for July. Now, Tyson must undergo strict medical testing mandated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to confirm he’s ready for the ring.
The tests Tyson needs to pass
In preparation for the rescheduled fight on November 15, Tyson needs to pass extensive tests, including EEGs and EKGs, to evaluate his heart and brain health.
The state commission has emphasized its commitment to safety, requiring these precautions before Tyson can compete. Recently, a Netflix docuseries documented Tyson’s journey to recovery, shedding light on his ulcer issues and offering fans a deeper look into his preparations for the match.
While some fans are eager to see Tyson return, others remain concerned about his health. Tyson’s representatives have assured that he’s prepared and committed to giving his best performance, with all necessary safeguards in place.
“I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die?'” said Tyson after an ulcer was found in his stomach.
“I lost 25 pounds in 11 days. Couldn’t eat. Only liquids. Every time I went to the bathroom, it smelled like tar.
“All my coordination, stamina, everything was hectic getting back. I was peaked already. I could have fought him that day. Now, I got to start from scratch. I had, like, eight blood transfusions. The doctor said I lost half my blood. I almost died.”
