Warriors strengthen roster with Al Horford signing while Kuminga talks stall

The Golden State Warriors have added a key piece to their roster by signing Al Horford to a multi-year contract. The veteran center brings a wealth of experience to the frontcourt, which has been a focus for the team this offseason.

This marks the 19th NBA season for Horford, who spent the past seven years with the Boston Celtics.

Known for his consistency, leadership, and ability to stretch the floor, he’s expected to bring a steady presence to a Warriors squad navigating an important transitional period.

Though the details of the agreement have not yet been released, the signing is seen as a strategic move to bolster depth and stability up front – areas Golden State had prioritized early in free agency.

Warriors still working to finalize deal with Kuminga

The timing of Horford‘s arrival coincides with a contract standoff involving forward Jonathan Kuminga. The 21-year-old remains a restricted free agent and has until October 1 to accept the team’s $7.9 million qualifying offer.

In addition to the qualifying offer, the Warriors have reportedly tabled a three-year, $75 million extension. However, negotiations have stalled over Kuminga‘s request for a player option, which is a sticking point that has yet to be resolved.

While Horford isn’t a direct replacement, his signing does offer the team greater flexibility if talks with Kuminga continue to drag out.

For Golden State, bringing in a seasoned player like Horford signals a desire to stay competitive while addressing both short- and long-term roster needs.

The team’s next steps, particularly in how it handles Kuminga’s future, could shape the season ahead.
