“Don Nelson is one of the most innovative coaches in NBA history,” the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) said in its statement.

A selfless man, Don enjoyed sharing his ideas and vision with all coaches. His impact on the NBA coaching profession has been immense.”

His work with the “Run TMC” Warriors in the early 1990s, featuring Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin, became one of the league’s most beloved eras for its high-octane offense.
“His impact on the NBA coaching profession has been immense,” the NBCA added, underscoring how Nelson’s willingness to share ideas made him not only an innovator but also a mentor and leader among his peers.
The Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award is named after the late Hall of Fame coach who led the Detroit Pistons to back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990.
