Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s family hit with bottles during Blue Jays’ win at Yankee Stadium

The Toronto Blue Jays should have been celebrating after knocking out the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the ALDS. The win sent them to the ALCS and had their fans buzzing with excitement. But for star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the night took an unexpected and disturbing turn in the stands.

According to MLB insider Héctor Gómez, several members of Guerrero’s family were struck by bottles and cans thrown from nearby fans during the late innings at Yankee Stadium. Among those hit was Gabriel Guerrero, Vladdy’s cousin and a former major-league player. Gómez shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Fans attacked Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s family members with plastic bottles during Game 4 of the ALDS.”

The reports spread quickly online, sparking outrage across the baseball community. Many fans and commentators agreed that this type of behavior has no place in sports.

Celebration Turns Ugly After Blue Jays’ Win

After the final out, Guerrero was seen having fun with MLB legend David Ortiz, shouting the famous “Daaa Yankees lose!” chant that Ortiz made popular during his playing days. The moment drew laughs from Blue Jays supporters – but soon after, attention shifted back to the troubling events in the crowd.

Videos and posts shared by outlets like EssentiallySports, Jomboy Media, and ClutchPoints show what appeared to be bottles and cans tossed toward Guerrero’s section near the visiting dugout. Witnesses said the scene grew tense as security tried to calm things down.

So far, the Yankees organization has not released a public statement. Many fans online, including some who were at the game, have called the behavior “embarrassing” and urged the team and MLB to take stronger action on fan conduct.

Guerrero, who went 1-for-4 with a walk in the win, didn’t speak about the incident afterward. Instead, he focused on the team’s next challenge – the ALCS matchup that awaits either the Mariners or Tigers.

What should have been a night of pure joy for Toronto will now be remembered for a reminder that passion in sports should never cross into aggression.
