Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid did not start 2026 in the best way. However, the forward has gradually added goals, assists and great performances for the Spanish club and is now very close to breaking a record held by the world’s top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.

CR7 marked a before and after in the Real Madrid and now Vini is very close to reaching the numbers of what is for many the greatest idol of Madrid.

Vinicius Junior is four assists away from becoming Real Madrid’s top assist provider

Vinicius has left behind the ups and downs of past matches, where he was booed by Real Madrid fans. Now the striker is focused on performing at the highest level on the pitch, where in the Champions League match against Monaco on Tuesday, October 3, he was one of the standout performers

The Brazilian has established himself as a key player in Alvaro Arbeloa’s attacking line-up, where the club secured an important 6-1 win over the French side. Vini supported the club with a goal and two assists; with these contributions, Vinicius became the best assist provider since the 2018-19 season and the second best in Real Madrid’s history in the Champions League, surpassing Karim Benzema.

Vinicius has 28 assists with Los Blancos in Champions League matches, leaving behind Frenchman Karim Benzema, who has only 27. With this, the Brazilian is now looking to reach the numbers of Cristiano Ronaldo, where the Portuguese has 31 assists, only three above the young striker who in this same season could reach and surpass one of the greatest idols of football.

Does Real Madrid secure their place in the next round of the Champions League?

Real Madrid, with the thrashing of Monaco, reached 15 points in the league phase, which puts them momentarily in second place among the 36 participants in the Champions League, awaiting the results of the other half of the matches to be played on Wednesday, January 21.

With this result, the Merengue club secured at least a place in the playoffs of the most important soccer tournament in Europe, and also depends on itself to remain among the top eight and thus avoid this preliminary phase.
