Before Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA, he was already a unicorn. Standing at 7-foot-3 with guard-type handles and perimeter shooting ability, “Wemby” seemed like the safest bet ever to succeed in the NBA. He certainly hasn’t disappointed, following up a Rookie of the Year season with an All-Star appearance last season.
At 21 years old, Wembanyama has nowhere to go but up, although it’s hard to imagine getting that much better than he already is on the court. But off the court, Wemby is trying to find his inner self. This offseason, he’s been spotted in Costa Rica and China, where his spiritual retreat took him to a Shaolin Temple for martial arts training alongside monks. Now, he’s going the opposite direction for a bit of fire.

This week, Wembanyama was spotted sitting on the bleachers next to a field, with NBA legend Kevin Garnett speaking to him. The dichotomy of Wembanyama following up a trip to see monks with a meeting with the outspoken and brash Garnett caught fans by surprise.
It seems like Wembanyama is covering all of his bases, learning tricks of the trade from every which way.
Wembanyama saw his 2024-25 season cut short by a blood clot in his right shoulder. The team expects him to be fully recovered by the time the new season rolls around. Until then, Wembanyama is enjoying his time out of the public eye.
