Venus Williams, one of the most decorated names in tennis history, has left fans buzzing with the possibility of a historic Olympic return.

Speaking after her recent comeback, the 45-year-old seven-time Grand Slam champion revealed she is keeping her options open for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, signaling that age might not be a barrier to yet another milestone.

With five Olympic appearances already under her belt, 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio, Williams has amassed four gold medals and one silver.

Her last Olympic outing in Rio saw her team up with sister Serena Williams to win silver in doubles, showing that even nearly a decade ago, she was still performing at the highest level.

Speaking to Parade magazine on Tuesday, Williams stated, “Nothing is impossible.”

“I would have to just keep the motivation to stay on the court that long, and we’ll see,” she added.

Should she compete in 2028, Williams would become the oldest tennis player to participate in the Olympics, surpassing Martina Navratilova, who was 47 during the 2004 Athens Games.

This milestone would add another remarkable chapter to Williams’ illustrious career.

Continued excellence on the court

Despite facing health challenges, including a 16-month hiatus and surgery for uterine fibroids, Williams made a triumphant return to competitive tennis in 2025.

She marked her comeback with a victory at the DC Open, defeating 23-year-old Peyton Stearns.

This win underscored her enduring skill and determination. Following this success, she participated in the Cincinnati Open and the US Open, continuing to compete at a high level.

Her resilience and commitment to the sport have inspired many, with fellow athletes and fans alike celebrating her achievements and tenacity.

Williams’ growing excitement for 2028

As the 2028 Olympics draw nearer, Williams’ potential participation adds an exciting prospect to the Games.

Her deep connection to Los Angeles, where she grew up, adds a personal dimension to her possible return.

In a recent appearance in an LA28 promotional video, she reflected on her Olympic journey, stating, “I feel like I was a part of the Olympics long before I ever got there. I grew up watching it. I grew up studying it. I grew up learning from the athletes.”

She further expressed her hopes for the 2028 Games, saying, “What I hope people take away from the experience of the LA 28 games is just the spirit of unity.”

While her participation is not yet confirmed, Williams’ openness to the idea keeps fans and the sporting community eagerly anticipating what could be another historic moment in her remarkable career.
