With the first major of the year just around the corner, PGA Tour pros have one last opportunity to fine-tune their game before heading to Augusta National.

The 2025 Valero Texas Open tees off on Thursday at TPC San Antonio, featuring a competitive field of 153 players.

What’s at stake at the Valero Texas Open

Among the big names set to compete are Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg, and defending champion Akshay Bhatia, who secured last year’s title in dramatic fashion.

Bhatia’s victory over Denny McCarthy in a sudden-death playoff was memorable, not just for his clutch putting but also for the shoulder injury he suffered while celebrating.

Now, he returns to defend his title against a talented field.

This year’s tournament also comes with a significant financial incentive.

The total purse for the Valero Texas Open is set at $9.5 million, with the champion taking home a substantial $1.71 million and earning 500 FedExCup points.

The stakes are high, not just for the prize money but also for the opportunity to secure a spot at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The top five FedExCup points earners from a select group of tournaments, including this one, will qualify for that event.

The runner-up at TPC San Antonio won’t leave empty-handed, with a $1.03 million payout.

Third place is set to receive $655,500, while the fourth and fifth spots will earn $465,500 and $389,500, respectively.

Even those finishing in the top 10 will walk away with six-figure sums, with the 10th-place golfer earning $258,875.

Beyond the top 10, the payouts remain lucrative.

The 20th-place finisher will receive $125,875, while those finishing just inside the top 30 will take home at least $65,075.

Even players placing in the mid-40s can expect a payday of over $30,000.

With such a deep prize pool, competitors have plenty of motivation to perform well, whether they’re vying for a career-changing victory or just looking to collect valuable earnings.

As the action unfolds in San Antonio, the field will be battling for more than just a title, they’ll be competing for a share of one of the more substantial prize purses on the PGA Tour.

With high stakes and big names in the mix, the Valero Texas Open is set to deliver an exciting week of golf.
