The US Open Tennis Championships, held annually in Queens, New York, is a major event in the tennis world, marking the final Grand Slam of the year since 1987. The tournament begins at the end of August and runs for two weeks, aligning with the US Labor Day holiday.

The tournament hosts five primary competitions: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Additionally, there are events for senior, junior, and wheelchair players. Since 1978, the US Open has been held on acrylic hardcourts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA), a non-profit organization, organizes the event, with proceeds helping to fund tennis programs across the country.

In 2022, the US Open, along with other Grand Slams, introduced an extended tiebreak rule for final sets, where matches tied at six games apiece are decided by a tiebreaker requiring ten points to win. This change aimed to standardize the rules across major tournaments and address issues related to match duration and player endurance.
