Laura Woods found herself in an awkward position during a live broadcast on TNT Sports Saturday night when Tyson Fury let an expletive slip during a fiery interview about his upcoming rematch against Oleksandr Usyk. The Gypsy King didn’t hold back when discussing his plans for the December 21 fight, leaving Woods to quickly apologize to viewers for his X-rated outburst.
Fury, 36, was taking a break from his intense training to attend Nick Ball’s WBA featherweight fight in Liverpool, where he stopped Ronny Rios in Round 10. Brought onto the TNT Sports panel to talk about the event and his highly anticipated second clash with Usyk, Fury was asked by Woods how it feels to step into the ring now that he’s older and supposedly wiser.
“I’ve always been a bad man my whole life,” Fury began confidently. “And I’m still one today, at nearly 40 years old.” He then added, “But this time, I’m going in destroy mode. Last time, I was being cautious, boxing the head off him-let’s talk facts. But this time, I’m not going for a points decision. I’m going to knock a motherf*cker out!“
Fury will always be Fury
As soon as the F-bomb dropped, Woods was forced to jump in and offer a live apology to viewers. “It might be past the watershed, but I probably do have to apologize to anyone who was offended by that,” she said, while acknowledging Fury’s unpredictable nature. “It is Tyson Fury though, so you might get a bit of that anyway.”
True to form, Fury didn’t let the apology slide without a cheeky retort, adding: “I’ll apologize for my behavior, but if you don’t like it, change the channel!” Woods playfully responded, “I thought there was going to be another one then!”
Fury declares himself ready to roll
Fury’s upcoming rematch against Usyk has fans buzzing, especially after their controversial split decision fight in May, which saw Usyk claim the WBC title. Fury, clearly fired up for the rematch, vowed to come in better shape, noting that he’s now fully recovered from the cut that postponed their first fight.
“I’m ready to roll. I can come into the ring at 30 stone and still do 15 rounds,” Fury boasted. “All I need is five or six weeks of good sparring-this time without worrying about a cut reopening.”
With tensions high and Fury’s bold claims, the December 21 showdown is shaping up to be a battle for the ages-just don’t expect the Gypsy King to tone down his trash talk anytime soon!
