Saturday was a massive day for the sport of boxing. Yet again, a show-stopping main event took place in Saudi Arabia. And yet again, it was Oleksandr Usyk coming out on top against Tyson Fury. Usyk beat Fury by split decision in their first match back in May, and the Ukraininan one-upped himself by winning unanimously today.
Following the first fight, Fury was distraught and beside himself at the decision. He thought he did more than enough to edge it out, as he did particularly well early in the fight. But when it didn’t go his way, Fury played the victim, claiming that Usyk was favored by the judges due to his native country, Ukraine, being in the midst of a war. While Fury didn’t go quite as outlandish this time around, he clearly wasn’t happy with the result.
Fury left swiftly, refusing to give any type of interview and bolting for the locker room. Behind the scenes, a Sky Sports camera crew caught Fury discussing the result with a member of Moses Itauma‘s team. Fury asked him what he thought about the decision, to which he replied “I thought it was a dead tie, I thought you were going to get it if I’m honest“.
Tyson Fury thinks he beat Oleksandr Usyk “by at least 3 rounds”
Fury then responded to him and the cameras, claiming that “I swear to God, I thought I won by at least 3 rounds“. He then says something along the lines of “I bossed the fight“, meaning he thought he controlled the bout for the majority of it.
The judges felt much differently, as they all had it 116-112 in favor of the Ukrainian. Usyk doesn’t care, as he’s coming away with another victory and all of his belts.
Usyk landed more punches throughout the fight despite throwing 86 less than Fury, marking a 42% to 28% disparity. He did more than enough to win unanimously.
