Slowly but surely, “The Problem Child” has earned the respect of the boxing world and the trust of his new colleagues in the ring. With his recent performances, Jake Paul has changed the landscape in the world of pugilism following his inclusion in the World Boxing Association rankings. So much so that the “YouTuber” has been singled out as a possible future opponent for Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, and there is a legend of the sport who believes he could win easily.
In the face of this possible commitment, Tyson Fury, former holder of the World Boxing Council heavyweight title, stated in an interview with Ring Magazine prior to the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium that Jake Paul would have no problem knocking out Joshua and that he is excited by the way he challenges boxers of all available categories. He even went so far as to make a “symbolic” bet in case this fight is agreed.
Tyson Fury’s prediction in the “Paul vs Joshua” fight
Tyson Fury, who has retired twice but has in mind to fight the current undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk to complete the trilogy against the Ukrainian, said: “I think Jake Paul would knock out Anthony Joshua, he’s consumed and Jake Paul is on the rise, I like him as a heavyweight, a little chubby, a little bulky,” Fury told Ring Magazine. “I like how Jake Paul challenges everyone from featherweight to heavyweight.”
After beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June, Paul said he wanted to be world champion and singled out Joshua, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and Badou Jack as possible opponents. He also exaggerated by considering Gervonta Davis, who is a lightweight champion. As he left Wembley Stadium, Tyson Fury was asked if he really saw Jake Paul as the winner, to which he added in his response: “I would bet a million dollars”.
Anthony Joshua’s knockout defeats
Anthony Joshua has only lost four fights as a professional and in two of them he fell before going the distance. The first time the Briton was knocked out was against Mexican-American Andy Ruiz at Madison Square Garden on June 1, 2019. AJ went down in the seventh round, but had been knocked down twice in the third round.
The last KO against Joshua was fatal as Daniel Dubois did not stop punishing him on the night of September 21, 2024. The duel between British giants ended in the fifth round after the Watford-born fighter was knocked down four times in the first five rounds and could not beat the count.
