Tyrese Haliburton was the cornerstone of the Indiana Pacers’ run to the NBA Finals, but fate took a cruel turn in Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The star guard suffered a devastating Achilles tear, and what seemed destined to be a legendary crowning moment instead ended in the heartbreak of injury.

It has been almost two months since that devastating moment when the 25-year-old Haliburton was forced off the court with his injury. Now, since that fateful June 22, the Indiana Pacers star has spoken about his recovery and the challenges he is facing. His words offer a glimpse into both the physical and mental battles of his comeback journey.

Inside Tyrese Haliburton’s comeback journey

Recovering from an injury is never easy, with countless challenges to overcome before returning to peak form, concerns that Tyrese Haliburton now faces in his rehabilitation. Nevertheless, the Indiana Pacers guard spoke with WFRV Local 5’s Kyle Malzhan at his youth basketball camp, sharing updates on the progress he has made in his recovery.

The Pacers star was candid about his situation but remained optimistic about the recovery process. “It’s been up and down, but I am finally walking without the use of crutches or a scooter or anything,” Haliburton said. “That’s exciting for me. I wanted to make sure I was able to at least walk a little bit by the time I was able to be here.”

Tyrese Haliburton has remained positive throughout his recovery, sharing encouraging updates along the way. “Every couple of weeks feels like a new achievement in my recovery. In the next couple of weeks, I’ll be able to wear shoes all the time without a boot and continue walking,” he said.

The Pacers guard also delivered a message to both teammates and rivals: “When I’m able to get to 100%, the chase for the championship will continue,” he said, expressing his optimism and determination to keep pursuing an NBA title.

Indiana Pacers stand by Tyrese Haliburton during recovery

The difficult reality is that Haliburton is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 season, a blow that would challenge any franchise to search for alternatives. However, within the Pacers organization, that idea is far from the narrative, as the team has shown complete confidence in its star player.

The franchise has demonstrated its support through the work of its medical staff, carefully managing Haliburton’s treatment and recovery schedule. As one of the team’s most valuable assets, he is being given every resource to ensure he returns stronger than ever.

Last season was a standout campaign for the Pacers guard, as Tyrese Haliburton delivered performances that highlighted his true potential. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game. Those numbers confirmed his status as one of the league’s rising stars.
