Tyreek Hill back to Kansas City? The costly move the Chiefs need to make to get the star wide receiver back

Tyreek Hill’s future with the Miami Dolphins is once again a topic of discussion, but Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has made it clear, any potential trade involving the star wide receiver would come at a high cost.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, Grier addressed the ongoing rumors of the former Kansas City Chiefs player seeking a move, stating that the team was not actively pursuing a trade. However, he also left the door open for negotiations under the right circumstances. “That is not anything that we’re pursuing. Who knows? If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks, we’ll consider it,” he said.

Hill, 31, has built an impressive resume, earning five All-Pro selections and eight Pro Bowl nods. However, his 2024 season was one of his least productive, coupled with Miami’s postseason struggles, fueling speculation that he may want a change of scenery.

Some obstacles on the road if interested

The Kansas City Chiefs initially traded Hill to Miami following their first Super Bowl win under Patrick Mahomes. The move allowed Kansas City to free up cap space, draft standout cornerback Trent McDuffie, and ultimately win two more Super Bowls.

Despite his talents, Hill’s hefty $90 million contract and recent off-field controversies, including an alleged domestic dispute, could make it difficult for Miami to command top value in a trade. Given Hill’s age and the baggage surrounding his personal life, Grier’s “two first-round picks” statement may be more wishful thinking than a realistic asking price.

While the Dolphins insist that a trade isn’t in the works, Grier’s comments indicate that the team would at least entertain serious offers. Whether the Chiefs, or any other franchise, would be willing to pay such a premium for Hill remains uncertain.

As the NFL offseason unfolds, the debate continues: Should Miami hold onto Hill, or would a return to Kansas City be the best move for both parties? The answer could shape the landscape of the league in the coming months.
